Nov. 13 NEA Today: Lanier High School Gives a Lesson in Real Education Reform

Next fall, Mauricio Ramos will enter the University of Texas at Arlington to major in computer science. “My career goal is to become a computer programmer, definitely,” he says. When he was in his early teens, however, that didn’t seem imaginable to Mauricio or to his teachers. Like a lot of kids growing up in his East Austin neighborhood, Mauricio was making all the wrong choices. “Bad influences were sending me down the wrong path. I needed something to change. Luckily for me, I went to Lanier.”

United Academics of Philadelphia, American Federation of Teacher’s (AFT) Local 9608 is a union dedicated to making higher education sustainable for the 15,000 adjunct professors teaching in Philadelphia-area colleges. We are organizing to build collective bargaining power, community and resources for a vital yet underrepresented majority of university faculties. Education is a public good, so we need to provide our students with a secure, respected faculty. Together, we can achieve what we cannot as individuals. Join us.

Washington State Legislators Urge UW to Negotiate a Fair Contract

Seven Washington State legislators, including Rep. Gerry Pollet and Rep. Larry Seaquist, vice-chair and chair of the House Higher Education Committee,  wrote to UW President Young to encourage UW to negotiate a fair contract that provides a living wage and job stability for UW English Language Faculty.

ATTENTION DEPT. CHAIRS - update re: Part-Time Faculty Evaluations & SLOs

11/19/13 - For both our full- and part-time faculty, the Union and District have agreed on a method of evaluating SLO achievement in the interim until it becomes part of the evaluation process in the contract revisions we are negotiating at the table.  It's important that everyone, especially Department Chairs, understand the changes for full-time faculty begining immediately and for part-time faculty beginning in the Spring.
